Currently reading The Sicilian by Mario Puzo and Designing Data-Intensive Applications by Martin Kleppmann.
I build systems that don’t blink.
Architecting resilient distributed systems by day, self-hosting everything in my homelab by night. Off-clock, I’m usually dialing in a fresh espresso, photographing nature, debating F1 race strategies, or making noise on the piano between baking sessions and gaming on my PS5.
01 The human
Scroll slowly. There’s coffee in a minute.
Heavy systems.
Light touch.
I’m Aseem - a software engineer who likes the unglamorous work: making large things feel small, fast, and boringly reliable.
I design and build data-intensive distributed systems, and own the whole arc: architecture, collaborating with the engineers who build it with me, and getting it delivered. Most days are spent with events, queues, storage, and the engineers who argue about them.
I’m a Catholic Christian 🇻🇦 and a theology nerd (Aspiring saint as a kid, that didn't happen. anyways..). Off the clock you’ll find me at the piano, baking cookies at an unreasonable hour (there'll be cookie dough in my freeer at all times), grilling things that walk, fly, and swim, brewing coffee, or behind a long lens chasing birds. Huge F1 nerd, self hosting enthusiast, and a gamer on PS5.

02 On the clock
The part where I’m actually useful.
Big data.
Small surprises.
I work in the parts that keep people up at night - throughput, backpressure, consistency, systems operating within SLAs, and the 3 a.m. page that should never arrive.
-
01Architecture & design
From whiteboard to production.
I design the architecture for event-driven distributed systems that operate at petabyte scale of customer data.
-
02Data at scale
Building Data Systems that are compliant to SLAs
These distributed systems process massive amounts of data at scale while maintaining compliance with SLAs. They're built for failure.
-
03Leading delivery
The last 10% is the job.
Scoping the work, collaborating with fellow engineers, unblocking, and staying until it ships. After shipping, the telemetry is collected and analyzed.
Want the longer version? I wrote it down.

Piano
I can play and sing along while improvising from a chord chart.
-
Baking
You should try my short bread bookies, butter, choco chip cookies during Christmas. Also, the Rum infused fruit cake during Christmas season.
-
Wildlife
I shoot (pictures) birds mostly. Also, other wildlife
-
Coffee
round size + and single point of origin = great coffee
-
Self-hosting
IDK why i do this. I got into this rabbit hole during covid. Its oddly satisfying to self host.
-
PS5
Co-op games with friends, open world games otherwise.
-
Theology
Catholic. Christian. Though imperfect by all metric, wanna be apologetic.
-
Photography
Nature, wildlife, and the odd long walk.
04 Right now
Currently
on my desk.
Freshly ground, brewed coffee,
every morning.
I own a DeLonghi Espresso machine. I grind my own beans everyday (on demand ig). I source my beans from specialty coffee roasters who own farms through this app called "Homegrounds". I have heard major complements for my Caramel Machiato, Cafe Mocca, and Iced Spanish Latte
PS5,
after hours.
I'm a sucker for open world games. If i'm with friends, I prefer co-op rather than competitive shooters, and the like with the exception of Heldivers 2. Pumped for Nov 19th.
The forever
playlist.
The playlist I've perfected over the years. Hope you like it too :)
Open on YouTube MusicA home cloud for the people I love.
I host Jellyfin for media, audiobookshelf for audio books, n8n for automations, stumbled with Home Assistant for a bit (I'll check this later). Wanna do Frigate NVR later. Tried hosting LLMs on CPU (a 8 core server machine) with ~32 gigs of memory. It was fun.

Thinking in public, at a human pace.
Thinking
out loud.
I write about software architecture, distributed systems, and finding our footing in the AI era. Occasionally about the things I believe in.

Built in the open, maintained with care.
Built in
the open.
A few things I maintain, and a few things I built for fun. All of them are open source.
